By Raymond Geok Seng Lee

The sun warms you, relaxes you, brightens your mood. But get too much, and you could end up with an agonizing burn. You can blame a too-tanned hide on Old Sol’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. They destroy cells in the outer layer of your skin and damage tiny blood vessels just below the surface. This produces the redness, swelling, and pain that you normally think of when you hear the word sunburn. While the inflammation subsides with time, a sunburn does have long-term effects. A burn is an injury to your skin, and the damage from it is cumulative. Repeated overexposure to the sun erodes elastic fibers in your skin, causing wrinkles. Even more serious, it could set the stage for skin cancer. Here are some tips that you can consider to ease your pain.

1.Safeguard Your Skin
To prevent another burn, always wear sunscreen when you head outdoors. It is recommended to have a product with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15. Apply it ½ hour to 1 hour before you go out so it can soak in. and take it with you so you can reapply it. This goes for waterproof sunscreen, too. If you perspire or go in for swim, some of the sunscreen’s effectiveness will be lost. No product is absolutely waterproof.

2.Read The Label
Some ointments intended for sunburn relief contain allergy-causing ingredients. Skin that is inflamed is more susceptible to an allergic reaction. It affects only a small number of people, but when you have a sunburn, you don’t want to experience an allergic reaction besides. If you are allergic-prone, you may want to ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend a product.

3.Put It In Neutral
A cold compress helps neutralize a sunburn. To make the compress, dip a washcloth or towel in cool tap water, wring it out, and lay it on your skin. As the water evaporates, it has a cooling effect, which helps control the burning and pain. It is recommended a ½ hour applications two or three times a day.

4.Wear Added Protection
The proper attire can protect your skin from sun’s UV rays. Tight-knit fabrics work especially well. But be sure to keep your clothing dry. If it is wet, about 50 percent of the UV rays will filter through.

5.Coat It With Cream
One percent hydrocortisone cream, available over the counter, helps to relieve sunburn pain. Use it directly on the affected area three or four times a day. And don’t wash it off, just leave it on and keep reapplying it. For added benefit, it is recommended to first applying the cream and then placing a cool compress over the top.

6.Bathe With Care
To cleanse sunburned skin, use relatively cool water and a mild hypoallergenic soap such as Cetaphil or Oilatum. Don’t scrub your skin or use a washcloth. And if you take a shower, aim the spray away from the affected area.

7.Pop A Pain Reliever
Both ibuprofen and aspirin can ease the pain and inflammation of a mild sunburn. A more severe burn may require a prescription-strength anti-inflammatory or corticosteroid. These can have gastrointestinal side effects, though. Ask your doctor about them.

It’s time to put those wintertime shoes away for the summer months! Have you been taking care of your feet? Here’s how to get your feet ready to show off in this year’s cute summer sandals.

If you’ve neglected your feet during the winter months, don’t despair. There’s still time to get your feet looking sexy and it won’t take forever to get them there!

Start out by taking a long look at your feet. You want to be sure there aren’t any cuts, scrapes, or torn cuticles. Since the easiest way to get your feet ready to show off is to use vinegar, salt, and lemon juice, it would hurt like crazy to get any of those in a cut! You may also want to trim and file your toenails before going any further.

Next, head to the kitchen. “The kitchen?” you ask. Yep, the kitchen! In a bowl, mash several slices of fresh lemon with 1/4 cup Epsom salt. This will make a pre-scrub to soften any rough spots you may have. Rub this mixture into your feet and then put on a pair of white socks for at least 15 minutes. While you’re waiting, crush 10 mint leaves with 1/4 cup Epsom salt and 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice and set it aside.

Fill a basin with hot water (but not too hot) and 1 cup of red apple cider vinegar. Add marbles to the water to massage your feet as you soak them. Just taking the time to soak them would also work, even if a massage would make your feet feel better.

After you’ve soaked your feet long enough that the water has started to cool, you can grab the mint and Epsom salt mixture. Rub that into your feet to remove dead skin. Rinse your feet in cool water and then massage olive oil into them. Put your feet back into white socks and leave them on overnight. The longer you leave the socks on, the softer your feet will get.

Substitutions can be made for most of these steps; however, not all of them. Coarse salt, table salt, or even sugar can be used for Epsom salt. You can use mineral or canola oil in place of olive oil. The only element in all of this that you wouldn’t want to substitute is the red apple cider vinegar as it will both soften the skin and help neutralize odors. Dusting your feet with corn starch before bed and before putting on shoes will also neutralize odors.

Summertime feet you’ll be proud to show off are just a few short steps away. By following these steps, you can have the feet you’ve always dreamed of. It’s time to put your best foot forward.

Top 10 Tips on How to Find Me-Time
By Giselle Green

Do you never have any time for yourself? Are you bored of sounding like a stuck record as you plead with your kids to tidy their rooms, brush their hair or help with the dishes? Do you struggle to watch your favourite soap?

Here are some great tips to get the kids to behave and help round the house so that you have time to put your feet up and enjoy a little me time.

1. Delegate

Kids love coming home from school and jumping straight on the computer, games console or TV. If it drives you round the bend that they aren’t helping out round the house, get them into the habit of seeing ‘computer time’ or ‘TV time’ as a reward (for helping you).

Start by only letting them on the computer after helping you with a chore. They’ll soon be queuing up to clear those dishes.

2. Make it fun

Whatever you need doing, get the whole family interested and involved by having fun. Even things like redecorating needn’t be a chore – kids love pulling down wallpaper. When their bedrooms look like a pigsty, hold a competition to see who can fill a bin-bag or the laundry basket first.

If you’re trying to get them to tidy their rooms promise them a game of twister or a board game in their bedroom – but only once the floor of their bedroom is completely toy-free!

3. Teach them as they help

Even little ones can be encouraged into things like sock pairing – this involves colour and size-sorting and it’s educational too. The same goes for putting groceries away after a shopping trip. One child can put away the frozen food, or tins and packets in cupboards. This is not only great for saving you time, but it shows that what they eat doesn’t get conjured up out of ‘nowhere’, so it teaches them appreciation too.

4. Get your man on-board

Arguments and discussions about the right way to do things waste valuable energy and time. It’s no good you laying down rules that the other one doesn’t stick to. This will only cause problems like, ‘Daddy always lets me sit in the front of the car and you won’t', or ‘Mum always lets me have biscuits before bedtime’.

Agree on boundaries with your partner and stick to them – the time saved by having to talk about it afterwards can be used for a little me time.

5. Agree a deal

Why not trade a weekend away on your own or with your girlfriends in exchange for your partner doing the same? You’ll come back refreshed and revitalised and when it’s your other half’s turn – so will they! If you don’t have a partner to share the children with, try kid-swapping weekends with friends. But however you do it, get that time away.

Just make sure you’re happy with who you leave them with, as you don’t want to spend your time away from them worrying!

6. Know what you want

Make a list of ‘time-treats’ – little things that you know you’d love to do for yourself if only the day were long enough. A 10-minute time-treat might be sitting down and reading a magazine or a couple of chapters in a book, a 30-minute time-treat might see you catching up on your favourite soap (if you’ve got two week’s worth recorded you’re never going to catch up otherwise!). This way when free time does crop up, you’ll know exactly what you want to do and won’t waste it.

7. Ask for ‘me-time’ as a present

If you’ve got a birthday round the corner and people ask what you’d like, don’t be afraid to suggest something that little bit different. Maybe you’ve always fancied going to London to have a treatment at a well-known hairstylist? Or you want to go out for a meal with friends instead of doing the cooking. It’s important to try and carve out that little space in the day that’s especially for you.

8. Beware the time thieves

We all love chatting with friends, but there are always people who keep you talking that little bit longer than they should do, certain parents outside the school gates, people in shopping queues or colleagues at work who eat into your time when you don’t really mean them too.

If you’re serious about claiming time back for yourself then think imagine you’re on a ‘time-wasting diet’ where hanging about too long listening to other people’s moans is the same as a calorie-packed doughnut!

9. Don’t do what you don’t really have to do

Have you found yourself ironing T-shirts that were only going to be worn under jumpers, or sweeping leaves that were only going to pile up again? Well don’t. Some women find it impossible to stop and the minute a chance comes to relax they ignore it and look for the next task.

If this sounds like you, then slow down. Look for the gaps and spaces where you can get away without being so busy and use some of that for a bit of me-time.

10. Make it count

We all know kids are exhausting but they grow up unbelievably quickly, meaning that your chances to build special memories together don’t last all that long. The key is to find something that counts as quality time for both parent and child. Something as simple as a bike ride in the country can suffice. Just make sure you’re fitting in quality time for everyone.

Wearing Modest Swimwear
By Cari Doughy

For many of us wearing a bathing suit brings up a lot of thoughts of not so much fun. The cut and fit of many bathing suits are not what many of us can wear and feel comfortable in. Feeling comfortable on hot summer days out at the pool, or the beach, is what many of us long for. This year we have a hot new trend in swimwear—the one piece bathing suit. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean it will be comfortable but because of this trend, the availability of Modest Swimwear has increased. For a lot of us this is music to our ears.

With the increased interest in the one piece bathing suit, companies have worked hard on making trendy little suits. With this development, companies who have made Modest Swimwear have been given a whole new line of fashion to work with that would be considered stylish swim wear. Bottom line is, if you are looking for Modest Swimwear you will be pleasantly surprised with this years selection of suits. Instead of the choice between 2 to 3 suits you will find up to 20 with a certain company—-now this is what I would call shopping!!!

Having wanted to buy only Modest Swimwear for years, the availability of shopping online and finding an abundance of stores (sites) to shop from is very welcoming. You will find both the one piece suit and tankini style suits in all colors and styles that will not only have you feeling comfortable but you will feel feminine. The trend of not bearing all is an approach many young ladies are taking and it is a courageous statement in today’s culture. Not many girls feel they can do this, but for those of you that will, you can do it with great style!

Both women and young ladies will once again be pleased with the many styles, colors, and comfort. You will also be happy with the increased availability of hard to fit sizes, and plus sizes. The Modest Swimwear line has come a long way from even 7 years ago. It is a welcomed sight to many, many women and teens alike. Not every teenager and woman is comfortable with showing so much of her body and it is about time the manufacturers have taken notice. Being modest is a very feminine and sexy approach to your womanhood. It is good to see so many girls going this route these days.

If you are one of the many women who are urgently trying to find stylish, modest swimwear, read some of my other articles and discover how.
